Plato’s Allegory of the Cave Essay Example for Free

Plato’s Allegory of the Cave Essay Plato’s Allegory of the cavern is a composed discourse between his sibling, Glaucon and his tutor, Socrates. Socrates asked Glaucon to envision a cavern occupied with detainees since adolescence, with legs and hands tied steadily so everything they could see was the divider. They came to accept that the shadows of the cavern were genuine. Socrates at that point clarified that once the detainees were liberated from the cavern, the lights from the outside world would initially torment their eyes, and hurt them. Some may even stow away go into the cavern to maintain a strategic distance from it. Be that as it may, the individuals who have opened their eyes begins to enlarge, sees everything and understands that the sun is the wellspring of all the light. They perceives that what they see presently is truth, and the shadows that they once thought was genuine was a hallucination. What Plato is attempting to state is that the objective of training is simply to open up ones sight, drag everybody out of the cavern, so they can see further and be increasingly receptive. He discloses that it’s not to just be brimming with information, yet to have the correct wants. This can be clarified by his little examination of how the man initially was blinded by the light and would need to creep once again into the cavern, yet he gradually was adjusted to the light and understands that everything that he once thought was genuine was a deception. He infers that everybody has a type of a hallucination, yet to break liberated from that figment would bring about progress. He’s suggesting that throughout everyday life, we have to continue breaking figments to be additionally instructed.

International Trade Project Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Global Trade Project - Essay Example In this the world cost is $1 which is route underneath the local cost of $3. Henceforth, at $1 residential gracefully tumbles to 1, anyway amount requested in the local market ascends to 16. This happens principally due to the reverse connection of amount requested and the immediate relationship of amount provided with cost. Accepting that there are no vehicle and different costs, household flexibly and request happens as indicated by the world cost. Since world creation is unbounded, at $1 the amount sold will be 16. c. Accepting that unhindered commerce happens for example there is no levy laid on the products imported from outside the residential nation; the harmony value remains at $1. Amount provided locally is 1 anyway amount requested locally is 16, which implies there is a hole of 15 units of creation. Reflection on a business education course

Consideration blending to Walker E. S ( 2006 ) P 216 has been characterized as â€Å" a methodology sing accepting about and exploring an issue of concern, which is activated by an encounter † . This just implies for there to be an examination, there must be an encounter, regardless of it being certain or negative. Leaver-Dunn et Al were other than noted in Walker E. S ( 2006 ) p 216 that examination can isolate between the master practicians and their equivalents. To get down with and looking way back to the start of this impossible to miss class it is intriguing to see that being a global understudy from Nigeria and investigating Marketing Communications in the University of Bedfordshire was an encounter ne'er to be overlooked, Is have experienced grouped signifiers of transmutation, since the meeting began in September 21st,2009. Change hypothesis, that was abdominal muscle initio created by Jack Mezirow, â€Å" distinguishes a method of adjustment that starts with an encounter one can non coordinate into the psychological lattice worked from front educational experience, and which ordinarily incorporates the undermentioned constituents: a disorientating predicament, self examination, a basic evaluation of premises, the affirmation that others have experienced comparative systems, the geographic campaign of choices for arranging new capacities, connections or activities, the arrangement of a program of activity and reintegration into the involvement in new, changed positions † . Fuguan Tan ( 2009 ) Discussing transmutation, I for one originate from an express that the instructive framework is completely not the same as that of Europe, particularly the United Kingdom. I had the option to come to footings with the way that at that spot existed a school schedule that will be simply followed and one saw myself in a sorted out scene. From the start I had employments coming to footings with being the solitary Nigerian miss in my classification until in this way when I was joined by another chap from my place express, this gave me a spot of affirmation as to standing up to the aggressive class. In the expressions of Aileen C. furthermore, Elaine E, ( 2004 ) they composed that comprehensively pondering example is actually a cardinal attribute of solid procurement, they proceeded to determine consideration as focusing on the quick, consequently indicating within informations of an occupation or undertaking. As a man I concur with the interest to think about or rather concentrate the quick, this will positively help to do amendments for the great beyond and non do similar blunders previously made if at all there was any. Further in the expressions of Horton-Deutsch. S and Sherwood Gwen ( 2008, p 947 ) examination includes â€Å" accepting about understanding, which drives researchers to a Fuller fear of what they know and builds their workable for driving † . Other than obvious in my position is the announcement of Horton-Deutsch, who composed that it is of import to ponder or accept back the experience, which will in twist improve the individual ‘s cognizance about an exceptional situation or increment the feasible for more noteworthy highs. In many occurrences it is accepted that the experience for investigating abroad has incredible strength for changing universal understudy. I should state one experienced a few periods of transmutation, for example, meeting change, indicting in consideration, reconfiguring perceptual encounters and re-adapting to the situation. Fuguan Tan ( 2009 ) Worthy of note is the point that all through my overview in my place state, there has ne'er been an opportunity for me to mirror, this made it rather incomprehensible for me to hold a reconsider on my blunders, and there was other than zero chance to do corrections.5.2 WHAT DOES REFLECTION MEAN?Cunliffe, ( 2004, p. 414 ) characterizes consideration â€Å" as the organizations or technique through which an involvement with the signifier of thought, feeling, or activity, is inspected to examine its essentialness while it is go oning or later † . Kember et al. , ( 2000 ) , composed that examination stands for a point on a procurement con tinuum which is so portrayed by wont at one terminal and basic consideration at the other. To Schon ( 1983 ) thought is alluded to as the capacity to reexamine one ‘s front thoughts and activity in setting, both to come up premises each piece great as to do centrality. Examination, as written in Klenowski V and Lunt I ( 2008 ) is to a great extent determining concerning reasonable constituents and hypothetical positions. Horton-Deutsch S and Sherwood Gwen ( 2008 ) clarified that â€Å" Reflection is tied in with larning for a fact, a basic feature of cognizance advancement and an ability crucial to driving improvement † . The two of them proceeded to reason on the balance that thought goes a long ways past normal experimental knowing, however it other than joins individual and moral methods for cognizing. Korthagen F and Vasalos A ( 2005 ) composed that the fundamental significance of examination is to larn from encounters. Woerkom M ( 2010 ) alluded to appearance in Deweyan ‘s position as instrumental obtaining ; he went more remote to see that it is the examination of premises certain in convictions about how to work out employments. In this curious definition, consideration in this way other than incorporates a part of negative judgment however alludes more to instrumental idea, which is worried about how to work out an occupation. Interestingly, Mezirow characterizes basic consideration as turn toing the request of the support for the truly premises on which employments are presented or characterized in the main topographic point and examination of their beginnings and impacts. Basic thought can non go an implicit part in the quick activity technique yet requires a suspension where to reconsider one ‘s centrality positions and, if essential, to change them. Basic self-reflection alludes to the greater part of import securing experience. It implies rethinking the way we have presented employments, our ain centrality positions, each piece great as reconsidering our ain direction to seeing, cognizing, thinking, feeling, and moving. A portion of the bookmans saw consideration, as basic examination or basic idea. It is consequently as often as possible non clear what the thing that matters is, or regardless of whether there exist a distinction, between these footings. Dewey, who is seen as the laminitis of the develop of consideration, here and there utilizes the footings â€Å" agonizing idea † and â€Å" basic idea † reciprocally. Scott. G.S ( 2010 )5.3 RECOLLECTIONAND PROCESS OF REFLECTION OF REFLECTIONThe hypothetical model for examination orchestrating to Korthagen F and Vasalos A ( 2005, p48 ) is alluded to as ALACT hypothetical record. This hypothetical record is said to trust on the reason that â€Å" commonly individuals consider their encounters † . The hypothetical record other than portrays an organized agonizing technique, yet on the different manus, the hypothetical record did non observe about the substance of examination. On the different manus Scott. G S ( 2010 ) p 434 conten ded that the advantage of examination has broadened hypothetical help in writing, however Scott ‘s meaning of thought is non without its ain explanation. He proceeded to make that the basic theoreticians ‘ thought is considered to â€Å" require the surfacing of premises comparative with condition of affairss and encompassed immovably power dealingss, control and the transmutation of conviction and qualities † . Reflection was conversely utilized by course theoreticians as â€Å" individual, mental modification rather than cultural change † Scott. G.S ( 2010 ) P 434 The capacity of student thought is a consolidate securing method, and consideration has three stages: a reappraisal of experience, investigation, and re-assessment ( Peltier, and A ; Drago, 2004 ; Peltier et al. , 2005 ) . The underlying period of this system is the reappraisal of experience and surmises awareness. That is, it surmises that the involvement with request has been brought into cognizance. The term ‘reflection ‘ is frequently utilized actually slackly and this can simple cloud the restrained and goal-oriented nature of such procurement. Reynolds ( 1999 ) recognizes basic consideration an assault where both experience and its cultural and political settings are analyzed, examination which centers around the individual and gives little taking care of cultural or political methods, and basic idea, a term which he contends is ‘usually used to mean a restrained assault to work excursion ‘ ( Reynolds, 1999, p. 173 ) . He proceeded to guarantee that toward the path writing â€Å" basic examination † is being utilized in the more vulnerable sense to portray attentive investigation or employment work excursion ‘ ( Reynolds, 1999, p. 177 ) . As for examination and obtaining, Argyris and Schon recognize singular cringle and double cringle procurement. For the practicing of individual cringle larning it is conceivable ‘by watching and considering our ain activities, to do a depiction of the quiet knowing understood in them ‘ ( Schon, 1987, p. 25 ) .This empowers us to break down and measure such insight. In any case, double cringle larning includes non only thinking about one ‘s activities, however next to inquiring about the premises and ‘theories-in utilization ‘ which are inserted in those activities. Walsh ( 2009 )5.4 PERSONAL FEELINGS AND LEARNING FROM THE EXPERIENCEThe awkwardness that was felt toward the start of the postulation was overwhelming. Everything began the initial twenty-four hours that we were advised to fix for the main proposal introduction, as I confronted the dismay I despite everything had the option to gather comprehension. I thought about at the outset whether I could get by with the work before me, yet with the support of savvy keeps an eye on I was capable t

Niccollo Machiavelli the most influential theorist of political philosophy - Free Essay Example

Niccollo Machiavelli was one of the most influential theorists of political philosophy. He was known as an Italian diplomat, philosopher, historian, and politician of the Renaissance period (Rubio, 2016). However, his notoriety stems from being known as the father of modern political theory, and his theory inspired the term Machiavellian (Rubio, 2016). The world in which Niccollo Machiavelli lived, surprisingly enough, resembles modern-day society to some extent. Even though city states have been replaced with nation states, empires have permanently collapsed, and modern warfare is now unimaginably waged with weapons and tactics, there are still similarities that remain the same (Stratford, 2015). Although Machiavelli died hundreds of years ago, he would likely be able to expertly navigate the political sphere of today, as if it was his own, seeing as how the principles that prevail remain the same (Stratford, 2015). Even though some of his teachings justified and inspired tactics involving dishonesty, immorality, and murder, there are still many positive takeaways from his teachings that have impacted modern-day society. As a result, his theories have become a guide for contemporary policymakers of all types across the world. Machiavelli was born on May 3, 1469 in Florence, Tuscany during the Renaissance movement (Borghini, 2017). He was the son of a lawyer from a rather distinguished family, and he spent hours educating himself in his fathers library (Borghini, 2017). As a result, there is reason to believe that he was exceptionally educated. In 1498, he accepted a political career covering two governmental roles in Florence, Italy (Borghini, 2017). He was assigned with diplomatic missions to local European courts which required a sophisticated understanding of politics along with great diplomacy (Borghini, 2017). In 1509, he was responsible for establishing the Florentine militia and leading the troops to recapture the town of Pisa (Borghini, 2017). Machiavelli was indeed a Renaissance man successful in most endeavors, leaving a lasting mark on history as a writer of short stories, histories, and plays. In 1513, in he was imprisoned, tortured, and exiled. He later retired to his country house, where he began writing his famous works including a classic masterpiece that is still read today, The Prince (1513) (Borghini, 2017). According to Machiavelli, in order for an individual to maintain ones state and achieve great things, one must be powerful, bold, flexible, resolute, and be prepared to break promises against charity, truth, religion, and humanity (Machiavelli, 1810). One must have the cunning of a fox and the strength of a lion (Machiavelli, 1810). This also means that in order to be successful, one must be willing to act deviously, ruthlessly, violently, and cruelly when deemed necessary. In todays politics, actions are judged by their success, which means one will be praised regardless of their wrong so long as the end justifies the means (Ratner, 2018). This message seems cold and calculating; however, it is one that many politicians live by. Machiavelli believed that rulers and citizens should not shrink from setting aside every scruple if the survival of the republic is at stake (Ramsay, 2017). In other words, political success excuses any unjust, cruel, or disgraceful deed, regardless of how h arsh the consequences may be. Admittedly, this is a cold way of dealing with society, and even though it does in some places exist to this extent today, this generally leads citizens to strike back. Even though the mere utterance of Machiavellis name has become synonymous with treachery and deceit, one of his main concerns was security of the state as well as the welfare of its people (Demack, 2012). When taken in correct context, his theory of leadership has some common sense to it. In Chapter 21, for example, he explains what leaders must do in order to be esteemed (Demack, 2012). Roughly transposed to todays way of thinking one could say that presidents who attend the Olympics and CEOS acting as philanthropists are actually following his counsel. Machiavelli admired Borgia but in his book depicted his weaknesses using brutal honesty (Demack, 2012). He identified the unpleasant truths of human nature in a straightforward manner. (Demack, 2012). The most successful politicians of today seem to be the ones who have an edge to them, the ability to get step outside the normal parameters of niceties. Jimmy Carter was a good example of one who totally lacked this sort of ability. Donald Trump is quite the opposite in his tactics, speaking and acting brutally at times. President Carter was an ineffectual president in some ways due to his clutching so closely his values. We have yet to see what the outcome will be for President Trump. Thomas Cromwell, the mastermind behind the English reformation, was said to have specifically admired Machiavelli and Roman Emperor Charles V and Henry VII were both found owning copies of The Prince. (Stratford, 2015). His works ended up inspiring Henry VII to defy the Pope and seizing religious authority (History Channel: Machiavelli, 2018). Machiavelli was also cited as the murderous Machiavel according to Shakespeare (History Channel: Machiavelli, 2018). Philosopher Edmund Burkes believed the French Revolution bore evidence of the odious maxims of a Machiavellian policy (History Channel: Machiavelli, 2018). Later, during the 20th century, his works were blamed him for the rise of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin because a book was kept by their bedside, and they were known to have read the book before (History Channel: Machiavelli). Business leaders also use Machiavellis theories in their aspirations of getting. Others go as far as to call it the Mafia Bible for gangsters like John Gotti (History Channel: Machiavelli, 2018). There are those who question his work and propose that it is a warning of what could potentially happen if power is not checked. However, a majority of individuals are said to think of it as a blueprint for how to gain power and hold onto it. (History Channel: Machiavelli, 2018) Cesare Borgia in The Prince is Machiavellis example of a prince with great prowess; however, this young man was also known to be the enemy of the Renaissance period (Demack, 2012). He was the illegitimate son of Pope Alexander VI, who ravaged Northern Italy, seized towns, and murdered many of those who attempted to stand in his way. (Demack, 2012). This meant no one was safe and anyone was liable to be strangled, stabbed, or poisoned with impunity. Niccollo Machiavelli was a Florentine diplomat during this time, therefore, he spent four months in Borgias court, writing dispatches to his superiors which helped inspire The Prince (Demack, 2012). In The Prince, he uses Borgia as an example to explain the dangers of acquiring principality by virtue of another got to change these words (Demack, 2012). Since Borgia was given power by virtue of his father, he ruled Romagna with overall skill. However, once his father died, a rival to his family gained influence, and Cesare was overthrown (Demack, 2012). This event having occurred hundreds of years ago may seem like an isolated moment in history, but the abuse of power is not peculiar to Renaissance politics. This abuse can occur anywhere, any time, and with anyone. Along with the brutality of war and politics, it seems that principles espoused by Machiavelli apply to not just todays society but to various time periods leading up to this. The Prince was intended to be a royal advice book explaining in detail the virtues that a good prince should possess (Machiavelli, 1810). The Prince gives instruction as to how a leader gains power and stays in power. In this book, he described how to run a principality without regarding what is traditionally right or wrong (Littell). Even though he did gain power in Florence, when the leadership changed, he also lost his political influence. The Prince, however, has become known as one of the best examinations of politics and is studied by political thinkers to this very day. Francis Bacon, British statesman and philosopher, wrote that We are much beholden to Machiavelli and others, that write what men do, and not what they ought to do, meaning that he wrote about the reality of politics rather than the theory (Littell). Even though The Prince had many practical insights on human behavior, it is also known to display a very pessimistic view of human nature and condones unethical way s of manipulating others (Littell). The Prince also teaches the inner workings of power. In his book, he asserts the importance of properly judging ones relationship with people of power (Demack, 2012). Misjudging these types of relationships, he reasons, can only jeopardize ones career, health, and bank balance. Power is usually abused when both the perpetrator and the victim share dysfunctional beliefs concerning power (Demack, 2012). Oftentimes, there are those who abuse their power and those who become victims, both of which act out of fear (Demack, 2012). The victim fears humiliation and the perpetrator fear the loss of power. Thus, Machiavelli tells us that the key to effective leadership is ones self-acceptance and self-knowledge. This was portrayed when men in The Prince, like Cesare Borgia, were destroyed simply because they lacked self-knowledge (Demack, 2012). Machiavelli asserted that if Borgia had recognized his weaknesses, he could well have ended up being far more successful. Self-acceptance, according to Machiavelli, is important because once one accepts their imperfections, they lose their power and others cannot manipulate them (Demack, 2012). This then gives one the courage needed to speak the truth to power and accept imperfections in others. This means that self-knowledge and self-acceptance are indispensable regardless of leading or following (Demack, 2012). In this sense he expresses the importance of individuals taking responsibility for their relationship with power. Machiavelli states that an appreciation for human nature allows one to foresee problems, defuse dangerous situations, and make wiser decisions (Demack, 2012). Applied to todays politics, these characteristics are very important in traversing the political playing field. To be able to understand what drives others and to have the objectivity to assess situations are both vital skills if one is to be successful. Machiavelli is said to have broken from politics in pursuit of a unified public and private good life (Stratford, 2015). This gave one the notion that politicians can operate according to the demands of the state as an entity independent from civil society and its moral imperatives (Stratford, 2015). He believed that in private morality the means matter just as much if not more (Stratford, 2015). However, in public morality, the ends are fundamental under all circumstances (Stratford, 2015). This means a leader who shows off their own moral imperfections to the public is more virtuous. In other words, he believed that to show ones imperfections was not a liability but an asset. Again, if we look President Trump, he definitely uses this philosophy. To his credit, he has garnered an admiration for his brutal honesty. Those who truly support him do not waiver, and much of this is, indeed, due to his unapologetic nature of telling it like it is. Machiavelli was the first to argue persuasively rules that constitute a morality as legitimate as that of ones everyday lifestyle (Stratford, 2015). His persuasiveness of the case rests in its relation to the world rather than its philosophical expansiveness (Stratford, 2015). Machiavellis writing came to life and even shaped the way generations of political leaders, publics, and philosophers understand how politics work. It also shaped the way that statesmen and politicians practice politics. This means that his legacy requires one to look at what he wrote and refer it to the world it was written about because that world involved the beginnings of the modern state. The term Machiavellian is used to characterize politicians who are evil because of the behaviors he is known to justify himself in his famous book, The Prince which turned Aristotles theory of virtues upside down and shook the European conception of government at its foundations (Borghini, 2017). Toward the end of the Sixteenth Century, The Prince was suddenly translated in all major European languages (Borghini, 2017). The Prince had also been a new subject of heated disputes into the many courts of the Old Continent. Unfortunately for Machiavelli, his main ideas have been misinterpreted at times. This led to the term coined as Machiavellianism, which would refer exclusively to his type (Borghini, 2017). Today, the term indicates a person with a cynical attitude, who is justified to do anything if the end requires it so long as they are a politician (Borghini, 2017). Again, an example of how this philosophy has sustained. One does not need to have read his book to understand the mea ning of the word Machiavellian. Machiavellianism has also made its way to the business world. This term used in the setting of the workplace means the employment of deceptive behavior in a business setting (Greenberg, 2003). Machiavellianism has even been studied as a personality characteristic sharing features with manipulative leadership tactics (Greenberg, 2003). Recently, however it has been applied to the context of the workplace and other organizations in a different way. Machiavellism, psychopathy, and narcissism, have been identified as the dark triatic personality traits (Greenberg, 2003). The Machiavellian generally manipulates individuals in pursuit of achieving his or her goals. A newer model of Machiavellianism is based on maintaining power, manipulative behaviors, and harsh management tactics (Greenberg, 2003). Studies have shown there to be a positive correlation between Machiavellianism and workplace bullying. The groups of bullies and victims were said to have a higher Machiavellianism level compared to those who were uninvolved (Greenberg, 2003). Machiavellians are known to manipulate and exploit individuals to advance their own personal agendas and maintain power over all. The guiding principles of Machiavellianism include that one must never show humility, arrogance is more effective when interacting with others, ethics and morality are for weak individuals, powerful people have the right to deceive others when necessary, and it is much better to be feared than to be loved (Greenberg, 2003). This means these individuals oftentimes neglect to share important information, fail to meet their own obligations, find ways of making others in management look bad, and spread false rumors. Research has shown Machiavellianism to be positively associated with subordinate perceptions of abusive su pervision which includes workplace bullying (Greenberg, 2003). However, if one looks deeper, Machiavelli actually addresses this issue. Bullying seems to be the only strategy known for individuals who cant lead. These individuals are weak, which means one will only become a victim if they cower. In the end, neither stance brings true happiness and one must always remember to watch their backs. Machiavelli addresses the danger of this. For example, most of the Roman emperors in The Prince died tragically before their time (Demack, 2012). Everyone is given the opportunity to lead others at work, in politics, in the community, or within ones family. Once one becomes a leader, however, they will be challenged which also means if there are any self-doubts, they will become very evident to those around them. Despite ones many strengths, often trying to hide ones weaknesses will only lead to them becoming exposed. (Demack, 2012). Machiavelli encourages strength and does say that the ends justify the means, but he also addresses the virtues of cunning a nd prowess, the ability to be a statesman. Bullying on its face would not be something that he endorsed but would rather warn against as an excess and a weakness. Through Machiavellis teachings, a very basic yet difficult question for politicians arises: Is it better to be fear or loved? According to Machiavelli, one should wish to be both, but, because it is difficult to unite them in one person, is much safer to be feared than loved, when, of the two, either must be dispensed with (Machiavelli, 1810). This is because fear is easier to maintain for a ruler than love. Machiavelli believes that fear is the most reliable emotion that can be most easily controlled. One cannot rely on love because it is unstable. Fear, however, is constant and will remain true no matter what the circumstances are. Love creates a bond of obligation while fear encourages obedience. It is always difficult to rely on being loved because people can be ungrateful, fickle, false, cowardly, covetous, dissimulating, hungry for profit and quick to evade danger (Machiavelli, 1810). These are all very valid points that be interpreted the wrong way. Machiavelli never said it is better to be feared than loved, instead he only said it was safer (Machiavelli, 1810). This, again is another facet of his philosophy that has carried over to todays politics. Throughout the world, we have despots that reign with terror, not so many with compassion. This remains a question still pondered by todays politicians as they attempt to establish and maintain their position. Again, President Trump comes to mind as an example of this facet of Machiavellis theory. He admittedly uses fear as a political tactic to get what he wants. Again, we will have to wait to see if this proves to be an effective tool. Machiavelli changed the course of world history by his revolutionary philosophy. Perhaps it was really nothing new, but the fact that he defined his thoughts so clearly gave the politician a tool with which to traverse the political environment. This book has been translated in different languages and is still used today in other fields (i.e. business). Good or bad, Machiavelli changed the way the game of politic has played to this very day.

Platos Use of Metaphor of Shadows in His Allegory of the ...

Platos Use of Metaphor of Shadows in His Allegory of the Cave Plato uses his Allegory of the Cave to explain to people the awareness of his realm of forms. Plato uses the prisoners in the cave to symbolise the people without the knowledge of the Theory of Forms. Such prisoners would mistake appearance for reality. They would think the things they see on the wall (the shadows) were real; they would know nothing of the real causes of the shadows. The rare individual escapes the cave and, through a long journey-discovers a higher realm, a true reality, with an awareness of Goodness as the origin of everything that exists. Plato was trying to get people to understand that we are like the prisoners†¦show more content†¦Like the prisoners, we will resist this knowledge because we are happy with what we know and believe that what we see is all there is. Plato used the cave and the outside world to explain his idea of there being two realms of the senses. The cave represents the incomplete knowledge which is only practised by the body. The outside world represents the complete knowledge or the true knowledge which is only practised by the immortal soul. Plato believes that we all have a soul which contains the information about the true Forms however we forget these true Forms. Therefore the shadows on the wall of the cave represent the shadows of the true Forms. The Cave also symbolises appearance and the outside world symbolises reality. The outside world contains the true Forms e.g. justice and beauty, which do not change. They can only be known by the soul and not by the eyes. The Sun symbolises the highest of these Forms, the Form of the Good. It is this Form of the Good that gives us the true knowledge of reality. The prisoner who escaped saw the sun and gained the knowledge that the images on the cave wall are just shadows of reality. b) On what grounds might Platos understanding of human reason be criticised? Plato thought that only people who had the complete knowledge of the True Forms were able of acting righteously. The system of traditional accounting is exempt from any category of safety as well as recital risks. The remaining risks, which are associated with the particular system of cloud-based accounting, are the risks of strategy and compliance (Du Huddart 2016). However, in case of system of traditional accounting, there is deficiency of any category of risks, either it may be risks associated with compliance or strategy. Restraints of Employing the Method of Accounting in a Cloud Based Way The prime inconveniences of employing the method of accounting in a cloud based way within a corporation are as follows: The method of accounting in a cloud based way is constituted of different kinds of risks and these involve the risks that are related to the performance of the firm, the risks that are associated with the security of the information and the data, the risks relayed with the compliance and the risks that are narrated strategically. The everyday expenditure i.e. both the operating costs and the fixed costs of employing the method of accounting in a cloud based way are additional due to the existence of the expenditures of the subscription. The SLA issues are the most common issues that are normally faced by the method of accounting in a cloud based way. There are restraints about the incorporation, policy of hybrid consumption, customization and functionality. Conclusion Finally, it can be suggested that both the mentioned methods of accounting have advantages and disadvantages. As a result, every organization should employ the particular method of accounting depending on its business category and its size. In addition, the firms having relatively smaller budget and possess those employees only who work remotely, cannot serve themselves with adequate defense and the businesses that mean to elude from any category of possible bodily calamities with expertise can execute the particular system of accounting. This implies the specified business can incorporate the cloud-based accounting system for operating the business in a better way. References Diatmika, I. W. B., Irianto, G., Baridwan, Z. (2016). Hollandpoetryproject Essay Both authors also use imagery to demonstrate the theme of dysfunctional implies and how the family members are affected by this dysfunction. Finally, the authors use imagery in both Rush Hour and My Papas Waltz to develop the underlying theme of rough behavior or violence. Both Rotten and Terracotta use imagery to convey a childs perception off parent or adult. In My Papas Waltz, the child perceives that his father is drinking when he states the whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy (l. 1-2). The father drinking is apparently quite frequent in the household. The boy is excited and at the same time frightened by he waltz when he says But I hung on like death: such waltzing was not easy (l. 3-4) Rotten conveys the image that the child loves his father but is still apprehensive of the nightly ritual because he cannot keep up with the dancing. Rotten also points out, the child perceives that the mother disapproves of the so called waltz when it is stated my mothers countenance could not unfrozen itself but she did nothing to Hollander BY canasta 2971 he use tot Imagery In [header Reroutes poems. Rotten and AR 80th authors The when he say: Rottener conveys the IR rhea re It perceive: dated ray mothers co stop the dance even when the pans slid from the kitchen SSH Iterations Rush Hour, the author uses imagery to show h with her mother and adults on the train when she points out once moved to touch her or to be touched (l. 8-9). This is UN small child. The author further points out, that the child ref at the adults when they question her such as when the condo broke her arm when, in fact, most young children love to tell happened to them (l. 4). She looked out to the big, shaded man (l. 25). This indicated that she had been taught to be quiz an adult outside the family. In both My Papas Waltz and R used imagery to demonstrate the theme of family dysfunction Rotten also uses imagery to show a dysfunctional family but dysfunction. The author states l hung on like death; such WA again when he notices that his father has been drinking and breath (l. 1-4). The child does not like th e nightly dance ritual his father. Rotten shows how regardless of the circumstance drunk, the child still loves and adores him and at bedtime the your shirt (1. 16). This is the childs way of coping with the days Iterations Rush Hour, there are many references that give hat is dysfunctional. When she states the babys scabbed FAA womans shoulder and the little girl at her side with her arm a picture of children who are undergoing some sort of abuse Terracotta notes that the young girls behavior is not that of a her mother. When the kind man and the conductor make ins childrens injuries the mother is quick to speak for her children who supposedly injured the baby (l. 20). She pleads, It was a mean to do it (l. 22). We can tell that she is really defending is afraid of anyone finding out about the dysfunction within h home life. Again, when the conductor asked about the broke She doesnt like to talk about that, we can tell that the moth secrets within her family (l. 26). Rotten and Terracotta both an underlying theme of rough behavior or violence. In My P shows rough behavior on the part of the father when he says wrist was battered on one knuckle (l. 9-10). The battered an extreme description of a knuckle and implies rough behavior. His father frequently waltzed him around rather roughly beef bed each night. We get the image off child who loves his fat little wary of him when he is drinking. He notes at every set ear scraped a buckle, which indicates the father was drinking rough he was with his son (1. 11-12). .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 , .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .postImageUrl , .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 , .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07:hover , .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07:visited , .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07:active { border:0!important; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07:active , .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07 .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u951e706400250208974c7f0caba64a07:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Poetry English language EssayTerracotta in Rush Hour, rough or violent behavior in many of the lines when she des the children such as a scabbed face in the baby and the little cast (l. 1-3). The imagery of the mother in dark glasses is a the violence of the father because the author states, no one her own dark glasses which indicates that the father uses vi with the children, but with the mother too (l. 27-28). The mother indicates violence when she says It was an accident. He didnt mean to do it, which gives us a picture of a father who has a tendency toward violence with all the family members (l. 2-23). First, we can see that both Terracotta and Rotten used imagery to show us how the children in the story perceived a parent or adult. Also, both authors used imagery to help us see these children were coming from a dysfunctional family and they were learning to cope with this situation. Then, both Terracotta and Rotten used vivid imagery to show us an underlying theme of rough behavior or violence that was present and how it affected the family members.

The Bay Of Pigs Invasion Essays - CubaUnited States Relations

The Bay of Pigs Invasion The story of the failed invasion of Cuba at the Bay of Pigs is one of mismanagement, overconfidence, and lack of security. The blame for the failure of the operation falls directly in the lap of the Central Intelligence Agency and a young president and his advisors. The fall out from the invasion caused a rise in tension between the two great superpowers and ironically 34 years after the event, the person that the invasion meant to topple, Fidel Castro, is still in power. To underezd the origins of the invasion and its ramifications for the future it is first necessary to look at the invasion and its origins. Part I: The Invasion and its Origins. The Bay of Pigs invasion of April 1961, started a few days before on April 15th with the bombing of Cuba by what appeared to be defecting Cuban air force pilots. At 6 a.m. in the morning of that Saturday, three Cuban military bases were bombed by B-26 bombers. The airfields at Camp Libertad, San Antonio de los Ba?os and Antonio Maceo airport at Santiago de Cuba were fired upon. Seven people were killed at Libertad and forty-seven people were killed at other sites on the island. Two of the B-26s left Cuba and flew to Miami, apparently to defect to the United States. The Cuban Revolutionary Council, the government in exile, in New York City released a statement saying that the bombings in Cuba were ". . . carried out by 'Cubans inside Cuba' who were 'in contact with' the top command of the Revolutionary Council . . . ." The New York Times reporter covering the story alluded to something being wrong with the whole situation when he wondered how the council knew the pilots were coming if the pilots had only decided to leave Cuba on Thursday after " . . . a suspected betrayal by a fellow pilot had precipitated a plot to strike . . . ." Whatever the case, the planes came down in Miami later that morning, one landed at Key West Naval Air Station at 7:00 a.m. and the other at Miami International Airport at 8:20 a.m. Both planes were badly damaged and their tanks were nearly empty. On the front page of The New York Times the next day, a picture of one of the B-26s was shown along with a picture of one of the pilots cloaked in a baseball hat and hiding behind dark sunglasses, his name was withheld. A sense of conspiracy was even at this early stage beginning to envelope the events of that week. In the early hours of April 17th the assault on the Bay of Pigs began. In the true cloak and dagger spirit of a movie, the assault began at 2 a.m. with a team of frogmen going ashore with orders to set up landing lights to indicate to the main assault force the precise location of their objectives, as well as to clear the area of anything that may impede the main landing teams to be added when they arrived. At 2:30 a.m. and at 3:00 a.m. two battalions came ashore at Playa Gir?n and one battalion at Playa Larga beaches. The troops at Playa Gir?n had orders to move west, northwest, up the coast and meet with the troops at Playa Larga in the middle of the bay. A small group of men were then to be sent north to the town of Jaguey Grande to secure it as well. When looking at a modern map of Cuba it is obvious that the troops would have problems in the area that was chosen for them to land at. The area around the Bay of Pigs is a swampy marsh land area which would be hard on the troops. The Cuban forces were quick to react and Castro ordered his T-33 trainer jets, two Sea Furies, and two B-26s into the air to stop the invading forces. Off the coast was the command and control ship and another vessel carrying supplies for the invading forces. The Cuban air force made quick work of the supply ships, sinking the command vessel the Marsopa and the supply ship the Houston, blasting them to pieces with five- inch rockets. In the end the 5th battalion was lost, which was on the Houston, as well as the supplies for the landing teams and eight other smaller vessels. With some of the invading forces' ships destroyed, and no command and

The Nighttime Sky Holds Many Stars

The Nighttime Sky Holds Many Stars The nighttime sky looks like it has millions of stars visible to observers. Thats because we live in a galaxy that has hundreds of millions of them. However, we cant really see all of them with the naked eye from our backyards. It turns out that the skies of Earth have, at most, around ten thousand stars that can be spotted with the naked eye. However, not everyone can see all the stars; they see only whats overhead in their own region. Light pollution and atmospheric hazes reduce the number of stars that can be seen even more. On average, however, the most anyone can really see (with very good eyesight and from a very dark viewing area) is around three thousand stars. People living in very big cities still see a few stars, while those in country areas away from lights can see more.   The best places to see stars are dark-sky sites, such as Canyonlands National Park or from onboard a ship in the middle of the ocean, or high in the mountains. Most people do not have access to such areas, but they can get away from most city lights by going out into the countryside. Or, if viewing from in the city  is someones only choice, they can pick an observing spot that is shaded from nearby lights. That increases the chances of seeing a few more stars.   If our planet was in a region of the galaxy with a lot more stars, chances are stargazers really WOULD see tens of thousands of stars at night. Our section of the Milky Way is, however, less well-populated than the core for example. If our planet could be in the center of the galaxy, or perhaps in a globular cluster, the sky would shimmer with starlight. In fact, in a globular cluster, we might never have dark skies! In the center of the galaxy, we might be stuck in a cloud of gas and dust, or perhaps be subjected to forces from the black hole at its heart. So, in a way, while our location in the outskirts of the Milky Way reveals fewer stars to stargazers, its a safer place to have a planet with dark skies.   Stargazing Among the Visible Stars So, what can be learned from the stars that observers CAN see? For one thing, people often notice that some stars appear white, while others are bluish, or orangey or reddish.   Most, however, appear to be a dull white.  Where does the color come from? The stars surface temperature gives a clue- the hotter they are, the more blue and white they are. The redder they are, the cooler they are. So, a blue-white star is hotter than a yellow or orange star, for example. Red stars are usually fairly cool (as stars go). Its important to remember, however, that a stars color isnt vivid, its more likely very pale or pearlescent. Also, the materials that make up a star (that is, its composition) can make it look red or blue or white or orange. Stars are primarily hydrogen, but they can have other elements in their atmospheres and interiors. For example, some stars that have a lot of the element carbon in their atmospheres look redder than other stars.   Figuring out Brightness of Stars Among those three thousand stars, observers can also notice differences in their brightnesses. A stars brightness is often referred to as its magnitude and thats simply a way to put numbers to the different brightnesses we see among all the stars. What affects that brightness? A couple of factors come into play. A star can look bright or dim depending on far away it is. But, it can also look bright because its very hot. Distance AND temperature play a role in magnitude.   A very hot, bright star that lies very far away from us appears dim to us. If it was closer,   it would be brighter. A cooler, intrinsically dim star might look very bright to us if it was very close by. Most stargazers are interested in something called visual (or apparent) magnitude, which is the brightness it will appear to the eye. Sirius, for example, is -1.46, which means that its quite bright. It is, in fact, the brightest star in our night sky. The Sun is magnitude -26.74 and is THE brightest star in our daytime sky. The dimmest magnitude anyone can detect with the naked eye is around magnitude 6.   The intrinsic magnitude of a star is how bright it is due to its own temperature, regardless of distance. Astronomy researchers are much more interested in this number since it gives some clue about conditions inside the star. But, for backyard stargazers, that figure is less important than visual magnitude.   While our viewing is limited to a few thousand stars (with the naked eye), of course, observers can seek out more distant stars using binoculars and telescopes. With magnification, new populations of stars widen the view for observers who want to explore more of the sky. Edited and expanded by Carolyn Collins Petersen.

Topic 3 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Topic 3 - Essay Example God, Tao, and the light address uncertainty in the way of living and derive a sense of goodness and integrity in the world. This paper will compare God, Tao and the light and establish how we access them and how the three deal with or address uncertainty. The book of Job seeks to define why the righteous suffer by presenting how God offers justice in case of human suffering. Indeed, in this book, God lets Satan destroy Job’s property and kill his children only for God to restore Job’s possessions in multiples. This derives an uncertainty about God, His justice, and the goodness in our way of living. The Allegory of the Cave presents the uncertainty in human life with respect to education. In this context, the sun acts as the source of light that derives human capacity to see where the sun symbolizes the Form of the Good. Notably, self-awareness eliminates cases of uncertainty in human life. The Tao Te Ching has 81 verses, which seeks to explain how to manifest goodness and integrity in our way of living in a world where many people are uncertainty about the reality of goodness and integrity in human life. Indeed, even the origin of the Tao Te Ching is not certain. It is clear that God, Tao and the light deal with and ac commodate uncertainty. From the book of Job, we can see that God is subjecting Job to suffering albeit some limitations. God limits Job’s misfortunes and Job and his friends fail to understand why God is punishing a righteous person like Job. They are indeed uncertain on how God works since they expected a just and righteous person like Job to get the justice he deserves. Ideally, God should reward the righteous and punish the wicked. Job and his friends believe in this assertion and hence their uncertainty on how God works leads them to choose between blaming Job or God. They almost gave up on the belief that God delivers justice since they would not understand how a just God could subject a righteous person to suffering. This book

Bioinformatics and gestational diseases Lab Report

Bioinformatics and gestational diseases - Lab Report Example Further research is indicated. Introduction Preeclampsia is a gestational disease of fairly common occurrence. It has effects of varying severity, and may in its worst forms cause a risk to the survival of both mother and fetus [1]. It is primarily linked to high blood pressure during pregnancy, and the risk of suffering from the condition is greatly increased with chronic hypertension in the mother [2]. However, it may also be linked to genetic factors in the fetus and the mother that affect the growth of the placenta, especially the vascular layout of the placenta [3]. Despite the potential severity of the condition and the amount of research conducted, the ultimate cause of preeclampsia is still unknown [4]. Genetic analysis methods have been used in an attempt to determine what genes and proteins associated with those genes are linked to preeclampsia. Coding these genes could allow a statistical determination of risk as well as a codification of the risk factors [5]. Therefore, t his paper will look at the current accepted statistical determinants surrounding preeclampsia and what is currently known regarding the genetic risk factors. Materials and Methods A search was done on Google Scholar for the keywords â€Å"preeclampsia† and the alternative spelling â€Å"pre-eclampsia† and the phrase â€Å"preeclampsia risk†, also with the alternative spelling. Precedence was given to those results that were located in journals with the words â€Å"bioinformatics†, â€Å"statistics†, or â€Å"molecular† in the titles, though this was not completely exclusive. This was done in order to obtain studies in the field of bioinformatics that were related to the gestational disease preeclampsia. An additional search restriction was added to that the articles had to be published after 2005, to ensure that only recent results that are currently considered to be accurate are used. An additional search was done on ScienceDirect and PubMe d for relevant articles. However, the parameters above returned no results within the ScienceDirect database and very few on PubMed, so the search was re-done with slightly different terms. The search was designed to restrict only to journals generally in the subject areas of molecular genetics or bioinformatics, but may not have had those keywords in the journal name. The same set of keywords was used, with the additional keywords of â€Å"molecular genetics† and â€Å"bioinformatics† in separate searches added to the phrases. Relevance was determined if the article had certain key factors in the abstract when first viewed. These included the words â€Å"risk factors†, â€Å"gene†, â€Å"allele†, or other keywords relating to genetic sequencing and its use in determining risk for preeclampsia. Therefore, the article was determined to be relevant if it appeared to be related to statistically quantifying or codifying the genetic risk factors for pre eclampsia Results One suggested genetic risk factor for preeclampsia was the rho-associated coiled-coil protein kinase 2, or the ROCK2 gene. The ROCK2 gene is located on chromosome 2p25, which previous research has suggested has a link to preeclampsia. However, the gene itself appears to be unrelated to preeclampsia, as when a group of patients were sequenced, there was no correlation between those who had preeclampsia, those who did not suffer from the condition, and the presence or absence of the gene
